Club Vortex...
Stepping into the sound of the blue glow at club vortex is to create an atmosphere to enjoy an evening that inspires creativity and hope. To present something that you cannot find anywhere. The idea was to create a sense of community among those who would enjoy this together. To show there are those out there who want this. Perhaps you would like to bring it to your business or home? We are trying to bring together the people who enjoy the exploration of culture and the true meaning of life. The people who enjoy this seem to be scattered through out the community and it has been fun gathering them together in an intimate setting to enjoy an evening of food, art, and music.
Artist vs. a blue collar workers society
The artist have always been thrown into a world that is not their own, and we have had a difficult time here in the greater North West trying to give a gift to the community under trying circumstances. For example: trying to perform a delicate piece of music full of emotion in a restaurant while your pick up orders are being barked out loud over the intercom, or a crowd wanting you to be quite enough for them to talk over your music. Or how about a bar/club that wants you to play something they recognize or can dance to? And last but not least the most common is playing for … well …. Hardly anyone.
Not that we do not appreciate the opportunity to get our art out to anyone who will listen but for the most part the end result has been the artists music falling on dead ears, trying to performing to an audience that for the most part is not truly interested in culture or art. It is time to bring the people who do enjoy art, food, music into the world of the artist so they can do what they do best and give the gift the way it was meant to be given.
A movement
All true and real movements of music have come during a paradigm shift in society and in the world. Some well known movements musically happened in the twenties and thirties and the birth of the speakeasy. I will never forget the story of Billie Holliday singing the song “Strange Fruit” in one of these clubs rocking the whole place with the meaning of her lyrics. One of the most courageous songs ever to be sang during that time and era.
In the 50’s and 60’s the kids would lie to their parents so they could go across the tracks to see the hottest new music being performed by a black musician playing this thing they called Rock- n – Roll.
I could go on and on explaining this phenomena but the point is that we are living in a movement. This is a part of that movement. People are feeling uncertain about their future with the economic crisis and the unsettled society is wearing on the souls of humanity. Where do we go from here? Music is a spiritual experience that can transcend all religions or politics. It is a language that can evoke feelings and emotions that one has longed to feel. The feelings of hope, it can be a soothing balm to the heart and soul of the listener as told in the age old story in the Bible when David would play to calm King Saul’s mind from the spirits that tormented him. It can cause one to have vision when there was no vision.
The artist that David Samuel is bringing together, have this gift or anointing of music. It is an art form in the purest sense but the descriptions are becoming more and more difficult as they seek to find the connection with their audience that transcends the science of music and crosses into something that is indescribable. It can only be experienced at one of these shows.
Here is what others are saying about it:
Having been fortunate to attend the private “Live Music” gatherings at New Destiny studios since David started these events a year or two now, has revealed one constant to me. Everyone leaves taking something a bit different away. I have enjoyed David’s talent at both large and smaller venues (Portland Blues Festival to numerous clubs and concerts) but noticed the people I met at the “Club Vortex” events in his studio truly were experiencing something unique.
Coming together to enjoy live music, refreshments, and good people in a private invitation type setting is really special. We have been treated to new music trends, featured artists, and great company. I’ve seen these events build yet maintain a family and friends special gathering feel. I remember one “Club Vortex” event where we learned something new and studio technical in a short question and answer session. Another “Club Vortex” event explored the spiritual connection side of music.
I’ve always enjoyed David’s talent but really enjoy some of the musicians he has introduced at these private events, everyone seems to really play and sing from the heart! “Best kept secret in the Northwest” and I love them….keep it up!
---Mark Rondeau (Albany Oregon)
With that in mind, I was absolutely thrilled beyond words the minute I walked through the door and into the haven of creativity and inspiration within the walls of that small and intimate club. I literally felt like I was in Seattle or Boulder.
THE STORY:
Where can I go...
When I feel empty and need to know
I heard of this place that will --- fill me with grace
I just need to know this thing they call the code ---
The code--- at the end of the gravel road
I need to know--- what awaits me there
I need to know what I'm feeling
I need to know which way to go
What will get me to the end of the gravel road
There is a place blind to greed, color or race
There is this place that takes you back
Back to a time and beautiful place
This place I know
Its a place at the end of the gravel road | ||
